Basic Scout Advancement

The New Scout program is a progression of advancement during which boys are provided with the "basic" skills of Boy Scouts.

Scouts who attend all meetings and campouts will have the opportunity to achieve 1st Class rank within the first year of Scouting.

Advancement Process

Each Scout is expected to advance at his own pace.

Troop meetings and campouts include instruction and testing for all requirements of Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class ranks.  Each boy will be taught the required skill, coached through the the skill and then tested by demonstrating the skill without coaching.

Scouts will receive sign-off for the skill from the Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters or Committee Members.

Please visit the appropriate page (at the right) for the rank requirements.

At the completion of all requirements for a rank, the Scout will ask for a Scoutmaster Conference.  For Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd and 1st Class ranks, please contact any Assistant Scoutmaster.  For Star, Life and Eagle, please contact the Scoutmaster.

Once the Scout has completed the Scoutmaster Conference, they are expected to contact the Advancement Chair to schedule a Board of Review.

Scout to First Class

The ranks earned are:

  1. Scout
  2. Tenderfoot
  3. Second Class
  4. First Class

Once a Scout has attained First Class, they are considered to be "fully trained" to participate in the majority of Boy Scout activities.

A Scout who is unable to complete any or all of the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class rank because he is physically or mentally disabled may complete alternative requirements.
